Thank you for your inquiry. I may be imagining it all wrong, but it sounds like the deep lace border may be an appliqué that can be removed and adjusted accordingly after hemming the length. I hope that answers your question.

It comes to a point just above the knee but angles downward to the side seam and has a gorgeous and deep lace border. Cutting this off makes the flare proportionally too short for the dress.

Not if you do it yourself. You can usually find lace appliques online for pretty cheap

@D.C. D.C. is the whole layer of lace on the dress lace applique, or is it lace fabric? I’m still a bit confused about lace overlays! Also, do you have any recommendations of where to buy it? Thank you for this tutorial, was really informative and clear!

@Katy B  Actually this isn’t my tutorial, I just like making my own dresses ?

It looks like the person in the video sewed a bunch of lace appliques onto a mesh fabric like tulle, but I’m sure you could find a big applique from etsy or a bridal shop. There’s also bundles on nice lace fabric from online bridal shops which I think are worth mentioning. Shopping on etsy will give you way more variety though. Do not under any circumstance buy from Wish, the quality is horrible and it’ll take weeks/months to reach you.
Also, always check the reviews online before buying your lace. Paying extra attention to the negative ones can save you heartache later on. I hope this helped 🙂

Greetings and thank you for leaving a comment.  There is no one right way to do something.  If it works for you to do the overlay first, why not stay with that.  As long as the end result is of excellent quality, that is most important.  I am sure your work is beautiful:)

Thank you for demonstrating how to hem the lace overlay. I’m looking for a fast way to detach applique! I’m guessing there is no ‘quick’ way. I’ve always hemmed the lace overlay first, but I like your idea of dealing with the satin underlay first!

Thank you for your inquiry. The lace on the whole dress is an appliqué from what I remember. The bottom of the dress is a lace trim or edging lace. Here is a quick reference about the many different laces:

You may want to explore your local fabric shops. I have shopped at our local fabric stores here in Houston, which are: http://stores.smfabric.com/lace/

I also visited the fabric shops in New York:

Since everything is online now, you can explore that avenue as well. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for visiting!

I’m still a bit confused about the different kinds of lace, lace applique and embroidered tulle! Also, do you have any recommendations of where to buy it? Thank you for this tutorial, was really informative and clear!
